This afternoon, Alibaba will hold the 2023 Alibaba Global Mathematics Competition Award Ceremony at Peking University, and the list of winners will be officially announced. The gold medal is the highest honor in the Alibaba Global Mathematics Competition.A total of 4 people won the award this time, including 3 from Peking University and 1 from Stanford University in the United States.Their average age is only 22 years old.

Among them, Qu Xiaoyu is the youngest perfect gold medal winner in the history of Ali Mathematics Competition. He is only 17 years old and is currently a sophomore at Peking University.

But this Chongqing boy considers himself not a genius: "I'm not very good at mathematics. The more I learn mathematics, the more I feel that I don't understand too much and I am very insignificant." Mathematics and piano are Qu Xiaoyu's favorite things. For him, mathematics is a wonderful art, and the piano is a place of trust. Playing the piano for 30-40 minutes every day is his happiest time.

Qu Xiaoyu's piano skills have reached amateur performance level, and his favorite pianist is Bach.

The gold medal winner, Zhang Shengtong, a doctoral student at Stanford University, also became famous at a young age. During his undergraduate period, he solved a problem that has troubled the mathematics community for 70 years. His paper was published in the top journal "Annals of Mathematics". This is his fifth time participating in the competition. He has won the silver medal four times in a row before. This year he finally won the gold medal, making his dream come true.

In addition, there are 6 silver medal winners, 2 of whom are from Peking University.

There are 10 bronze medal winners, 6 of whom are from Peking University.

The total prize money of this competition is as high as more than 4 million yuan, including a gold medal of US$40,000 (approximately 290,000 yuan). Some gold medal winners said that they have achieved financial freedom on campus and will participate again next year.

As a charity event jointly organized by Alibaba Damo Academy and Alibaba Charity Foundation. The Alibaba Global Mathematics Competition has been successfully held for five times since 2018, attracting more than 250,000 entries and covering contestants from more than 70 countries and regions.

On June 17 this year, 685 contestants from 19 countries around the world stood out from more than 50,000 contestants and advanced to the eight-hour final showdown.

The scope of this year's finals includes five major tracks: algebra and number theory, geometry and topology, analysis and equations, applied and computational mathematics, and combinatorial and probability. Competitors must first choose a main track and a secondary track from the above five tracks. Correct answers to 5 questions in the main track are worth 100 points, and correct answers to 2 questions in the secondary track are worth 20 points, with a maximum total score of 120 points.

It is understood that the final scores of previous gold medal winners were all above 100 points, and there were even some players who scored full marks. A large number of new generation mathematicians have moved to a bigger stage through mathematics competitions, such as the young mathematician Wei Dongyi who won the first gold medal.
