OpenAI's 'Stargate' project eyes international expansion

According to the British Financial Times,Stargateate)is a $500 billion project led by OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank to build artificial intelligence data centers and other artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States, and is currently considering investments in the United Kingdom and other overseas locations. 

While Stargate was initially launched to enhance U.S. AI infrastructure, the project is reportedly considering international expansion. In addition to the UK, Germany and France are also being considered, according to the Financial Times. 

To be clear, Stargate remains focused on the U.S. market for now, as initially advertised — and it's still raising its first $100 billion in funding. SoftBank is expected to invest tens of billions of dollars in debt and equity.

When the Stargate program was announced in January, President Donald Trump hailed it as a "declaration of confidence in America."
