Starting from April 19, Vietjet Airlines of Vietnam has opened two routes: Hanoi-Con Dao and Ho Chi Minh City-Con Dao. The aircraft are two Chinese C909s (formerly known as ARJ21). This is also the third international market opened by C909 after Indonesia and Laos. It is reported that,These two C909s were "wet leased" by Chengdu Airlines to Vietjet Air - the lessor not only provided the aircraft, but also provided a full set of support such as crew, safety management, maintenance support, and operation control, which is almost equivalent to actual transportation.
According to Vietnamese media reports,Tickets for the Hanoi-Con Dao route went on sale on April 15. On that day, economy class and business class tickets for many flights were quickly sold out, making it unprecedentedly popular.
Con Dao is a tourist attraction in Vietnam, with a huge demand for passenger transportation. However, in April 2024, Bamboo Airways announced the termination of the relevant aircraft leasing contract, and the relevant routes have been suspended until now with the C909.
At present, Indonesian Air Asia has been using C909 for more than two years. In addition to domestic routes, it will also open an international route from Manado, Indonesia to Guangzhou, China in 2024.
Just in March before that, C909 entered the Laos market for the first time and successfully completed its first commercial flight on April 12.
So far, C909 aircraft have opened a total of 15 routes in the three countries, transporting more than 250,000 passengers.
