As Meta successfully poached several senior researchers, an OpenAI executive assured team members on Saturday that the company's leadership was not "sitting on the sidelines," according to reports.
"I have a strong feeling right now as if someone broke into our home and stole something," chief research officer Mark Chen wrote in a Slack memo obtained by Wired.
In response to Meta's hiring spree, Chen said he, CEO Sam Altman and other OpenAI leaders have been "talking to people who are qualified around the clock" and that they are "more proactive than ever before. We are realigning compensation and looking for creative ways to recognize and reward top talent."
Over the past week, various media outlets have reported that eight researchers have left OpenAI to join Meta. Altman even complained on a podcast that Meta was offering a "$100 million signing bonus," which Meta executives refuted internally.
