Professor Zhou Liya/Song Zhiqiang’s team from the Department of Gastroenterology, Peking University Third Hospital, led a study conducted by digestive disease diagnosis and treatment centers in 40 medical institutions across the country and found that,The triple regimen containing riforniazole is expected to return Helicobacter pylori treatment to the era of simpler triple regimens, bringing a new treatment option to Helicobacter pylori-infected patients around the world.

The relevant results were recently published online in The Lancet-Infectious Diseases.

Zhou Liya said that this study passed the world’s first phase III clinical trial. It is confirmed that the triple regimen containing riforniazole has a higher eradication success rate and lower incidence of adverse reactions than the currently commonly used clinical bismuth quadruple regimen, and it requires fewer drugs and is more convenient to take, providing a new bactericidal weapon for clinical eradication treatment. This multicenter, randomized, double-blind study included 700 treatment-naïve patients with Helicobacter pylori infection.

The results show,Rifornidazole-based triple regimen (rifornidazole 400 mg + rabeprazole 20 mg + amoxicillin 1000 mg, twice a day, 14-day treatment course) compared with clarithromycin triple regimen plus bismuth (clarithromycin 500 mg + rabeprazole 20 mg + amoxicillin 1000 mg + bismuth) (240 mg twice daily, 14-day treatment course), the eradication rate achieved non-inferiority in the main analysis population (92.0% vs. 87.9%), superior efficacy in the multi-drug-resistant population (89.9% vs. 87.9%), and the incidence of clinical adverse reactions was lower (37% vs. 53%).

It is understood that riforniazole is the world's first new molecular entity drug independently developed by my country, specifically developed for Helicobacter pylori infection. Relevant basic and clinical research results show that Helicobacter pylori is generally sensitive to this drug, has a low minimum inhibitory concentration, can effectively overcome the high drug resistance of Helicobacter pylori, and shows high safety.

"Due to drug resistance, poor accessibility, common allergic reactions and other reasons, my country currently faces many difficulties in the selection of antibiotics related to the treatment of Helicobacter pylori. The advent and application of riforniazole will solve this difficult problem and greatly improve the eradication efficacy of Helicobacter pylori infection."

Public information shows thatHelicobacter pylori is transmitted through food and has infected nearly half of my country's population and 70% of households. It is closely related to many common diseases, especially about 80% of gastric cancer, ulcers, atrophic gastritis, etc., is an important health issue in our country.
