Recently, OpenAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Altman expressed his views on the changes in the return rate of a general university degree and the importance of "being good at using AI" in an interview with a program.Altman pointed out that the return on average college degrees will decline faster than in the past decade. However, he also emphasized that this decline "But it won’t plummet to zero as quickly as it should in theory.".
During this period, Altman did not believe that huge returns would be accumulated and concentrated on a small number of people engaged in AI-related work.Instead, he emphasized that the rewards of being good at using AI will be widely distributed in unexpected ways.
In his view, AI can help us all explore new science, and many people will benefit from it. People may start companies based on the opportunities brought by AI, or obtain new job opportunities with AI, but he does not think this is the only way to make money.
Altman believes that people will apply AI to various types of work, or use AI to complete existing tasks better.
To better illustrate this point, he gave an example from his own experience as a child: At that time, he had a job teaching his elders how to use Google. At that time, it was difficult for the elders to understand the operational logic of "just input the content and it will give the result."
When it comes to AI development, Altman believes that one of the reasons why ChatGPT can grow rapidly is that it is easy to get started and users can quickly get actual value from it.
