Recently, Intel released a Product Change Notice (PCN).It is confirmed that its flagship desktop processor Core Ultra 9 285K will usher in an update to the retail packaging. The original "Ultra 9K Tier 2" large-size packaging will be replaced by the more compact "Ultra 9K Tier 4" solution.

According to the notification details,The size of the new packaging has been significantly reduced from the previous 165mm x 150mm x 64mm to 116mm x 101mm x 44mm.

This adjustment also benefits logistics and transportation, increasing pallet loading density while also reducing volumetric storage requirements. Intel said the number of consumer units per pallet will increase to be consistent with existing transportation configurations.

At the same time, Intel emphasized that this change only applies to the outer packaging, and the specifications, performance, Material Master (MM) number and order code of the processor itself remain unchanged.

In addition, before the existing inventory is cleared, both old and new packaging may appear on the market at the same time.

This kind of packaging downgrade is not uncommon with Intel's desktop flagship processors, with Intel typically launching larger display boxes early in the product cycle and then switching top models to smaller, simpler packaging later in the product cycle.

In addition, if the rumored 290K Plus is released in the next few weeks, Intel may directly adopt this compact package to unify the shipping specifications.
