Apple announced that it will introduce intelligent programming functions into its flagship programming tool Xcode, officially laying out the hottest technology track in Silicon Valley. With agent-driven programming technology, programmers can let AI software write code autonomously. Apple said its Xcode tools will support Anthropic’s Claude agent and OpenAI’s Codex coding tool.

"Xcode can now work with programming agents to handle complex, multi-step programming tasks on your behalf," an Apple representative said in a demonstration video released on Tuesday to coincide with the feature announcement.
Last summer, Apple updated Xcode to integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude functions, and this latest update expands the cooperation between the two parties to the field of agent programming. In an email sent to developers, Apple stated that these agents can complete the construction and testing of projects, consult Apple's official development documents, and fix program problems.
At present, independent programmers and various enterprises have begun to adopt agent programming technology to improve the efficiency of software development through a method called "ambient programming" - that is, humans give instructions to artificial intelligence and then review the generated code.
Apple Intelligence, Apple's consumer-facing artificial intelligence suite, has previously suffered launch delays and management changes, but in recent months, artificial intelligence programming capabilities have quickly become popular among Apple's mobile phone developer community.
Users need to bind their OpenAI or Anthropic account to Xcode through an API key. Apple said that this feature uses open standards. In addition to the built-in Anthropic and OpenAI agent integration functions, programmers can also connect other compatible agents and artificial intelligence tools in Xcode.
Xcode is an integrated development environment created by Apple for developers. Almost all Apple mobile applications are developed through this tool. The new version of Xcode 26.3 launched this time has opened its beta version to Apple registered developers and will be officially launched on the Apple App Store later.
Just on Monday, OpenAI also launched an exclusive version of its agent programming application Codex for Apple computers.
