Valve has officially released Proton 11.0 Beta 1, the first public beta of the next major version of the Steam Play compatibility layer.The new version resets the underlying foundation to Wine 11.0 and upgrades multiple core components, bringing substantial improvements to the running of games on the Linux platform.
Proton 11 Beta 1 adds a batch of officially verified playable games, including "Unknown Face", "Gothic 1 Classic Edition", "X-Plane 12", "Dragon Warrior 4" and "Deadly Premonition".
A large number of games that were previously only adapted in Proton Experimental have also been officially included, including DCS World Steam Edition, "Resident Evil" and "Resident Evil 2", "Dino Crisis" and "Dino Crisis 2", "Ashes", "Metal Gear Solid Survival", "Warhammer Vermintide 2", "Metal Fatigue" and "Shogun Shogun Total War".
In terms of component updates, Valve upgraded DXVK to 2.7.1, DXVK-NVAPI to 0.9.1, Wine Mono to 11.0.0, vkd3d was updated to code based on version 1.19, and vkd3d-proton was updated to the April 10 build version.
At the same time, Proton 11 Beta 1 also adds support for SteamWorks SDK 1.64 and FEX-2604 for the ARM64EC architecture.
In addition, Valve said that the new version solves the problem that many EA games cannot run after the recent update of EA desktop version, and also fixes the Steam overlay glitch in these games.
Other fixes include Red Desert, Death Stranding 2: Beyond the Strand, Submarine 2, No Man's Sky VR, Microsoft Flight Simulator VR, Final Fight, The Happiness Factory, Sea of Solitude, and Phobia.
