Recently, the National Insurance Crime Bureau released car theft statistics for 2025. A total of 659,880 vehicles were stolen in the United States throughout the year, a 23% decrease from the previous year. On average, a car was stolen every 48 seconds. In terms of the number of stolen models, the Hyundai Elantra became the most stolen model with 21,732 units; the Honda Accord ranked second with 17,797 units; and the Hyundai Sonata ranked third with 17,687 units.

The top ten list also includes Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Honda Civic, Kia Optima, Ford F-150, Toyota Camry, Honda CR-V, Nissan Altima and other models.

Data shows that Hyundai and Kia models had a higher risk of being stolen due to issues with anti-theft configurations.

However, the number of related thefts has declined for the third consecutive year in 2025, with stolen vehicles of the two brands accounting for 14% of the total thefts, down from 23% in 2023.

Models such as the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 on the list are all best-selling models with high numbers of copies in the U.S. market, which is one of the reasons why they have the highest number of stolen vehicles.
