The global memory industry is in a historic upward cycle driven by AI, and the domestic DRAM industry has ushered in a critical development window. As the leading domestic memory chip company Changxin Memory (CXMT) has made substantial breakthroughs in DDR5 technology, Chinese memory module manufacturers are accelerating the launch of downstream products and promoting domestic DDR5 from the technology verification stage to enter the consumer and enterprise-level commercial markets on a large scale.

Powev, a major domestic memory module manufacturer, recently announced that its SINKER brand DDR5 server memory has officially entered the mass production and delivery stage. Its DDR5 64GB 5600MT/s RDIMM server memory has passed strict testing by many major manufacturers and has officially achieved large-scale mass production delivery. At present, the entire production line is connected, the material supply is stable, the production capacity is full, and the yield rate has reached mass production standards, which can meet the needs of large customers for batch stocking and project delivery.

Other domestic manufacturers such as COMAY have also released DDR5 products based on Changxin particles for industrial and enterprise applications.

In the consumer market, domestic DDR5 memory under the Gloway and KingBank brands of Jiahe Jinwei will be on the market as early as the end of 2024, becoming the first iconic products of domestic DDR5 to enter commercial circulation channels.

The intensive launch of downstream products stems from the core technological breakthroughs of upstream Changxin Storage. Changxin Memory officially released DDR5 memory products with a speed of 8000MT/s at the IC China 2025 exhibition in November last year, providing two single-particle capacities of 16Gb and 24Gb, fully covering application scenarios such as servers, workstations and personal computers.

Although the 24Gb capacity is still one generation behind the 32GbDDR5 chips of international giants such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, this is an important milestone in the development history of China's DRAM industry.

Changxin Memory, founded in 2016 and headquartered in Hefei, Anhui, is currently the only company in China that has achieved large-scale mass production of DRAM chips. Its product line has covered server and desktop DDR memory, as well as LPDDR low-power memory for smartphones, tablets and wearable devices. The latter has successfully entered the supply chain of mainstream domestic electronics manufacturers such as Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo, Transsion, and Lenovo.

However, the global DRAM market is still highly concentrated. TrendForce data shows that in the fourth quarter of 2024, Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron accounted for 91.5% of global shipments with a share of 32.6%, 33.2%, and 25.7% respectively.

Despite facing the monopoly pattern of international giants, the domestic storage industry still enjoys multiple benefits. The U.S. government has recently relaxed restrictions on Changxin Memory and Yangtze Memory, clearing some obstacles for domestic memory to enter mainstream markets such as Europe and the United States. At the same time, Samsung's gradual withdrawal from the old LPDDR standard market has also created valuable growth space for domestic manufacturers in the entry-level smartphone and PC fields.

Changxin Memory's current global market share is about 10%. As its production capacity continues to expand, it is expected to further enhance its market position in the future.
