On June 25, Nintendo issued a press release announcing that the new R&D base under construction in Kyoto was officially named the "Technology Development Center" and simultaneously released the latest completed renderings.

This facility was planned after Nintendo purchased land from Kyoto City through public bidding in April 2022. It has been promoted under the name of "Headquarters Second Development Building (tentative name)". This name change clarifies its strategic positioning as a new research and development base for software and hardware.
The new building is planned to have 9 floors above ground and 1 floor underground, with a total construction area of approximately 49,305.87 square meters. It is expected to be completed in March 2029. Although the previous plan mentioned a completion target of December 2027, according to the latest announcement, the construction period has been adjusted.

Nintendo said the Technology Development Center will be equipped with developer offices, server equipment, and various functions and facilities needed for future research and development. The company will continue to invest in this location to enhance its research and development capabilities.
The site covers approximately 10,028.55 square meters and is located between Nintendo's headquarters and the existing development center. In the mid-term business plan announced in 2021, Nintendo listed "accumulation of software assets" as one of its key areas and mentioned that the scale of investment in this development building will be far greater than originally expected. The new R&D building is part of its strategy to strengthen its game software development system and hardware research capabilities.

Over the past decade, Nintendo has continued to expand its development infrastructure. The "Nintendo Headquarters Development Center" in Kyoto was completed in March 2014. It is a building with 7 floors above ground and 1 floor underground, with a total construction area of approximately 50,229 square meters. It integrated more than 1,500 R&D and game development employees who were scattered throughout the country at the time.
The technology development center announced this time can be regarded as a new round of major investment by Nintendo in hardware and software research and development, aiming to provide technical support for more unique and broader entertainment experiences in the future.
