According to a recent regulatory filing by Netflix, the company has completed the acquisition of the startup InterPositive for $587 million in cash. The startup was co-founded by famed actor and director Ben Affleck.
Netflix had previously announced this acquisition plan in March this year. In a statement issued by Ben Affleck at the time, he said he hoped to use this collaboration to "protect the power of human creativity." According to Affleck, the artificial intelligence tools developed by InterPositive are designed to assist filmmakers in optimizing materials in the post-production stage, especially to solve problems encountered in real-life shooting such as missed shots, background replacement or unnatural lighting.
When the two parties announced the agreement, Netflix revealed that InterPositive's entire team would be integrated into the company, and Ben Affleck would also serve as a senior advisor, but the specific financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed at the time. Bloomberg had previously reported that the deal could be worth up to $600 million.
As content production technology continues to evolve, Netflix’s application of artificial intelligence has become increasingly in-depth. In its latest financial report, Netflix said that currently about 300 of its film and television works have applied generative artificial intelligence technology.
