According to 9to5Mac,Apple is developing the second-generation iPhone Air. The new model will focus on making up for the shortcomings in imaging, battery life, and heat dissipation. It is expected to be released in the spring of 2027.Previously, it was reported that because the sales of the first-generation iPhone Air did not meet Apple's expectations, Apple once removed the second-generation product from the release plan and did not give a new launch time.
However, follow-up reports show that Apple has not canceled the iPhone Air 2 project, and related research and development work is still progressing.
In terms of imaging, the first-generation iPhone Air was limited by its ultra-thin body and only equipped with one camera on the rear. The iPhone Air 2 is expected to be upgraded to a dual-camera solution. The new lens is expected to be an ultra-wide-angle lens instead of a telephoto lens. The overall configuration will be in line with the basic iPhone.
In terms of performance,iPhone Air 2 is expected to be equipped with the A20 Pro chip, which is a further upgrade compared to the A19 Pro used in the first generation model.
It is reported that the A20 Pro will become Apple's first iPhone chip built using the 2nm process, and will introduce wafer-level multi-chip module technology to integrate SoC and DRAM at the wafer level, thereby further improving performance and energy efficiency.
Battery life is also the focus of this upgrade, supply chain sources said,iPhone Air 2 will be equipped with a 3500mAh battery, which is more than 10% higher than the 3149mAh of the original model.
Coupled with the energy efficiency optimization brought by the A20 Pro chip, the actual battery life performance of the new machine is expected to be significantly improved.
In terms of heat dissipation capacity, iPhone Air 2 may introduce VC vapor chamber heat dissipation technology. This technology has been applied to iPhone 17 Pro before, which can improve heat dissipation capacity and sustained performance in high load scenarios.
Overall, the iPhone Air 2 will continue to be thin and light, but Apple is trying its best to make up for the experience shortcomings brought by the ultra-thin body through upgrades such as dual cameras, larger batteries, 2nm chips and VC vapor chambers.
