Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to a recent statement by Toyota Motor Corp. Chairman Akio Toyoda on Tuesday, saying he was helpless and incomprehensible. Previously, it was reported that Akio Toyoda said at a business event this month that he believed that pure electric vehicles could only achieve a market share of 30% at most, and the rest would be occupied by hybrid vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and fuel vehicles.

Toyoda also believes that engine cars will continue to exist, "This is why Toyota competes globally and has a complete multi-channel product lineup."

Electric vehicle analyst Sawyer Merritt shared the news on the X platform, and Musk responded: "Sigh."

Musk warned last year that if traditional automakers did not quickly transition to electric vehicles, they would be eliminated, just like the film giant Kodak was abandoned by the digital era.

In an interview in December, Musk said companies that don't transition to electric vehicles are definitely making a big mistake, comparing that mistake to companies that doubled down on the horse and buggy when cars first emerged more than a hundred years ago. "In the age of the automobile, you didn't want to be a horse-and-carriage manufacturer," he said.
