[The complex brains of cephalopods are related to the three-dimensional folding of DNA] On October 12, a study published by the University of Vienna in Austria in the latest issue of "Nature Communications" found that cephalopods can evolve complex nervous systems. The reason is not only genetic mutations, but also the three-dimensional folding of DNA in cells that may actively affect evolution. Large-scale genome recombination hundreds of millions of years ago turned DNA fragments that were originally far apart into "neighbors" and gradually formed a huge regulatory network, providing conditions for the emergence of complex nervous systems. The research team reconstructed the three-dimensional organization of the animal's genome and combined it with gene activity data to interpret it.
