[Middle East risks push up European natural gas prices to a new high since the end of 2022] On October 19th, affected by concerns about low gas storage inventories and a fragile winter supply balance, European natural gas continued last week's gains. Benchmark futures climbed to their highest levels since December 2022 following reports that a liquefied natural gas carrier was attacked near Yemen. The current filling rate of gas storage facilities is slightly above 74%, lower than the five-year average of 89% for the same period, and prices have more than doubled from pre-war levels.
