[Break foreign long-term monopoly! China has made important breakthroughs in the research and development of small liquid mass spectrometers] September 10th, reporters learned today that China has recently made important breakthroughs in the field of research and development of small liquid mass spectrometers. In view of the long-term constraints on clinical promotion applications such as conventional liquid mass spectrometers (LC-MS/MS) such as large size, high cost, and complex operation. Relying on the technical innovation center (mass spectrometry) of the State Administration for Market Regulation established by the China Institute of Metrology, a scientific research team was organized to carry out key technical research and successfully developed a low-cost, easy-to-operate small liquid mass spectrometry system (LC-MiniMS), filling the domestic technical gap in this field. The research team has made breakthroughs in core key technologies such as small vacuum systems, high-efficiency ion transmission systems, and high-stable circuit systems. Under the premise of ensuring the accuracy of quantitative analysis, it has greatly reduced the size of the instrument and effectively reduced manufacturing costs. It has broken the long-term technical barriers and price monopoly of foreign manufacturers in this field and achieved domestic substitution. At present, relevant results have been successfully applied to the precise quantitative analysis of vitamins, hormones and therapeutic drugs in clinical samples, providing a high-precision, low-cost innovative solution for therapeutic drug monitoring in resource-limited or decentralized medical environments. Through in-depth industry-university-research cooperation with domestic instrument manufacturers, this system has been approved for a Class II medical device license and has been officially approved for sale as the country's first dedicated clinical liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry system, marking a key leap in China's clinical mass spectrometry testing equipment from "laboratory-specific" to "clinical routine". In the future, this instrument can be used for high-throughput accurate detection of endogenous and exogenous compounds in clinical samples. It not only provides solid technical support for high-quality medical resources to sink to the grassroots level, but is also expected to fully open a new era of inclusive application of clinical mass spectrometry and inject new scientific and technological momentum into the construction of China's precision medicine and public health systems.
