Abstract:
Apple will once again upgrade its desktop all-in-one machine at the end of 2024 and launch a new iMac, which adopts a stunning slim design, provides nano-texture display options and a variety of new colors, and is equipped with an M4 chip with 12MP Center Stage camera and supports Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. Nearly two years have passed, and it’s almost time for the iMac product line to be updated.

According to VideoCardz, Apple is preparing to release a new iMac at the end of this year, which will be equipped with an M6 chip and is expected to have new colors. Since switching to self-developed chips, iMac has been updated more regularly than the MacBook series. From the launch of a redesigned 24-inch model in 2021, equipped with M1 chip, then skipping M2 and switching to M3 chip, then changing the internal design, equipped with M4 chip, and then skipping M5 and switching to M6 chip. The new model will retain the existing overall design and will also be a small update.
It is rumored that the M6 series is one of Apple’s first chips using TSMC’s 2nm process. It uses the same process as the A20 series chips used in this year’s iPhone, and is expected to bring significant improvements in performance and energy efficiency. Somewhat different from the past, it is rumored that this time the M6 series will only provide basic versions, M6 Pro and M6 Max have been cancelled, and high-end chips will jump directly to the M7 series.
Apple has previously tested the M6 chip in the basic MacBook Pro model, adding a number of improvements to the CPU microarchitecture and NPU design to support local AI processing. Compared with the 153GB/s of the M5 chip, the unified memory bandwidth will be further improved and is expected to reach 200GB/s. In addition, the number of GPU cores will also increase from 10 to 12.
