Airbus slows down A330 aircraft deliveries due to discovery of leftover tools in the tail of a production aircraft

📅 2026-09-04

Abstract:

Airbus Group has been forced to slow down the delivery of its A330neo aircraft due to a legacy tool found in the tail structure of an A330neo aircraft in production, a person familiar with the matter said.

"We confirm that an isolated quality issue was recently discovered on the horizontal stabilizer of an A330 aircraft," Airbus said in an emailed statement. "As a result, we launched inspections of A330 aircraft in the production process, resulting in a slowdown in monthly deliveries during the summer. The source of the problem has been identified and A330 aircraft deliveries have resumed."

Airbus did not deliver any A330 aircraft in June and July. Figures expected to be released next week will show that Airbus delivered a total of 57 aircraft in August, including just one A330.

The problem involved a tool left inside the aircraft structure, which was discovered during pre-delivery inspections, the people familiar with the matter said.
