Anthropic launches Claude Duet agency app to proactively handle professional work

📅 2026-10-22

Abstract:

Anthropic launches Claude Duet, positioning it as a proactive AI agent for professionals and small business owners. Unlike chatbots that wait for users to ask questions, Duet regularly checks connected apps, compiles a daily briefing on key issues, and proactively alerts users when it finds emails, schedules, or business issues that need to be addressed.

Powered by Claude Opus 5.5, Duet continues to process tasks in the background, even when the user is away from their phone or computer. It can schedule meetings, organize emails, draft follow-up messages, help reconcile unpaid invoices, prepare payroll and contracts, and can create dashboards, financial or sales forecasts across tools, and even build web applications. Anthropic said Duet can use more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins in the Claude Marketplace, including Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto, LinkedIn, DocuSign, HubSpot and Shopify.

When it comes to taking action on behalf of the user, Duet will first display content ready to be executed and wait for approval, such as sending a message, making a payment, signing a document, or deleting information. It can purchase items through Stripe's Link digital wallet or Shop Pay, but can't trade securities or transfer funds between accounts. Anthropic said that Duet will not directly contact users' passwords or login tokens; the newly added security classifier will intercept the outgoing transmission of sensitive information such as credit card numbers and government identification documents, and health and personal financial information will only be sent when the user explicitly requests it.

Claude Duet is currently launched in the form of a research preview, providing iOS, Android standalone applications and Claude.ai web version. In the first phase, it is only open to Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States and must join the waiting list; Team and Enterprise users are not currently open. During the preview period, Duet shares usage credits with the user's Claude subscription, and background checks and larger tasks will also consume credits.

Anthropic emphasized that Duet is mainly designed for work scenarios, and its ability to handle personal matters such as booking tickets is not mature enough, and it is not yet possible for users to see how it operates the browser in real time. The company acknowledges that earlier versions may have misjudged the importance or urgency of messages. With the successive launch of agent tools such as Meta Muse and OpenAI Dots, Anthropic is further expanding Claude from a conversational assistant to an agent that can continuously work across applications.
