Apple begins proactively pushing iPhone users to upgrade to iOS 27

📅 2026-10-09

Abstract:

Apple is further promoting iPhone users who are still stuck in iOS 26 to upgrade to the latest version of iOS 27. It is reported that starting from October 8, users who continue to run iOS 26 will first see the iOS 27.0.1 update package in the "Settings" - "General" - "Software Update" interface. iOS 26.7.1, which was previously in the main position, has been moved to the "Updates Also Available" column at the bottom of the page, where it is displayed in a less conspicuous manner.

iOS 27 will be officially released on September 14, 2026. In the past few weeks, Apple has been using iOS 26.7 and the subsequent iOS 26.7.1 as the default recommended updates, while iOS 27 and later iOS 27.0.1 have been placed in the "Updates Also Available" area for users to choose to install.

Now Apple has adjusted the order of the two and promoted iOS 27.0.1 to the most prominent recommended position, which means that the company has begun to more actively encourage users who are still using iOS 26 to upgrade to the latest generation operating system.

However, Apple currently does not force users to install iOS 27. For users who choose to stay on iOS 26, installing iOS 26.7.1 is still the official recommended approach, because this version contains the latest security fixes and can provide continuous security protection for the device.

As of now, Apple has not announced the user adoption rate and upgrade data of iOS 27, so the outside world is temporarily unable to judge the actual popularity of this new system among iPhone users around the world.
