Abstract:
Apple completed the CEO handover this week in accordance with the succession arrangement unanimously approved by the board of directors on April 20. Tim Cook officially stepped down on August 31 after holding the position for nearly 15 years; John Turners, senior vice president of hardware engineering, became CEO on September 1 and joined the board of directors. Cook transitioned to executive chairman on the same day and continued to participate in company affairs. One of his focuses was communicating with policymakers in various countries. Former non-executive chairman Arthur Levinson was renamed lead independent director on the same day.
This is the implementation phase of the established handover and is not a newly announced personnel change this week. Apple's official press release noted that the transition was the result of long-term succession planning, with Cook handing over work to Turners over the summer. During the earnings call on July 30, Cook confirmed that it was the last performance meeting he would attend as CEO.
Cook’s performance and open letter during his tenure

Turners: From Hardware Engineer to Apple CEO
Turnas joined Apple's product design team in 2001, served as vice president of hardware engineering in 2013, and was promoted to senior vice president in 2021 and joined the management team. The company said he was deeply involved in the development of multiple generations of iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods. In March this year, he launched MacBook Neo at a press conference in New York. The hardware engineering line had been adjusted before his promotion: Johnny Sluji became chief hardware officer, with responsibilities covering the original hardware engineering and hardware technology departments.
September 9 press conference and pending matters
Apple has sent out invitations for a park press conference on September 9, with the slogan "Surprise and shine", which will be broadcast live online simultaneously. This will be Turners' first fall product launch as CEO. The public invitation did not list specific product models. External reports list the iPhone 18 Pro series, the first foldable screen phone and the new generation of Apple Watch as possible release projects, but these are still market expectations that have not been confirmed by the company and should not be regarded as announced specifications.
