This year's Gamescom brought a lot of exciting new news to us players, but unfortunately at least two thefts cast a pall over this year's event. Indie game developer Ryan Riley Laley) Revealing that his device was stolen from his booth at Gamescom, he said it "devastated him financially and mentally". Fortunately, Riley has received a lot of support from industry insiders, including The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Project Red.
On social media, CD Projekt Red responded to Riley's initial message, saying "see if we can send you something," before adding that "no brother should have to start from scratch."
CDPR tweeted: "We are very sorry that this happened to you. I hope you know that you are not facing this alone. Although this may not help you now, we will check Arasaka's hardware archives and see if we can send you something. No brother should be forced to start from scratch."
Riley later thanked CD Projekt Red and others in the industry for their generous help. He also gave special thanks to marketing consultant Indie Game Joe, who donated money to help Riley replace the missing device.
Indie gamer Joe then suggested that players add Riley's upcoming game Mimic to their wish lists.
Unfortunately, this isn't the only reported theft at Gamescom this year. Iam8bit company released news that despite the presence of security personnel at the booth, two laptops were stolen overnight. The company also noted that the stolen laptops contained early demos of Petal Runner and Escape Academy 2.
