Apple introduces TechWoven woven fabric to iPad mini smart protective case priced at $79

📅 2026-10-26

Abstract:

Apple today released the TechWoven Smart Folio for the new generation of iPad mini, using this woven fabric for the first time in an iPad protective case, replacing the polyurethane material design that has been used for many years.

Since Apple has not announced a replacement product made of polyurethane at the same time, the new iPad mini is likely to be the first iPad to be launched without Apple's polyurethane protective cover since the original model in 2010. Apple first used this material when it launched the Smart Cover for iPad 2 in 2011, and has continued to use it in subsequent generations of Smart Covers and Smart Folios until today.

The new accessory is available in navy and taupe, matching the midnight and starlight colors of iPad mini respectively. It sells for $79 in the U.S., a $20 increase over the previous generation smart case.

In addition to the material changes, Apple also redesigned the structure of this protective case and changed it to a double-panel structure. It magnetically attaches to the iPad mini and supports multiple adjustable viewing angles. Apple said the new design brings a greater range of motion and new viewing angles, further improving flexibility of use.

The new smart protective case will be available for pre-order simultaneously with the new iPad mini on October 28 (Wednesday) and will be officially released on November 6 (Friday).
