Apple releases official version of iOS 27.1, only available to iPhone Duo users

📅 2026-10-24

Abstract:

Apple officially launched the final official version of iOS 27.1 this week. However, this version will not be open to all compatible models, but will only be used by the folding screen iPhone Duo, which was officially released on that day.

According to Apple's arrangement, iPhone Duo has iOS 27.1 pre-installed when it leaves the factory. However, when users complete the device initialization setup process, they still need to upgrade to a newer version of the iOS 27.1 build. Apple has previously opened this version of IPSW firmware for download for users and developers.

The update description released by Apple is quite brief, only mentioning "bug fixes for your iPhone." At the same time, this version does not contain any security fixes, and the focus is mainly on general stability improvements.

For other compatible iPhone models, Apple has not pushed iOS 27.1 simultaneously. Instead, the company has directly advanced the development progress to iOS 27.2 and has released the iOS 27.2 Release Candidate (RC) version to users. This version is also compatible with iPhone Duo, which means that all supported models, including new folding screen models, can be upgraded to iOS 27.2 in the future.

The industry believes that the reason why Apple made iOS 27.1 an exclusive version of iPhone Duo is probably to prevent some exclusive software functions from being leaked in advance before the new device is officially launched. Since the iPhone Duo adopts a new folding screen design and has developed a specialized software experience for large-size foldable displays, Apple chose to limit the scope of the system before the product was released to strengthen confidentiality.

With the official release of iPhone Duo, iOS 27.1 has also completed its phased mission. According to the current plan, Apple is expected to launch the official version of iOS 27.2 to users next week, by which time all compatible devices, including iPhone Duo, will enter a unified software version system.
