Apple tests giant folding iPad form or may refer to MateBook Fold

📅 2026-10-25

Abstract:

According to Notebookcheck

, Apple is testing a large-size foldable tablet device, and its design ideas are based on Huawei MateBook Fold.

According to reports, after the successful launch of iPhone Duo, Apple is accelerating the layout of more foldable devices. Although Apple still faces supply problems in meeting market demand, market demand for the foldable phone remains high.

The folding tablet exposed this time is described as a "huge folding tablet", and its design is based on the MateBook Fold launched by Huawei in August.

Reporter Ming-Chi Kuo’s previous predictions showed that the foldable iPad will be released in 2028. The diagonal screen size after unfolding will be 18 to 20 inches, and it will use an ultra-thin glass cover, exclusively supplied by Corning, with GIS responsible for cutting, edge processing and inspection.

On the iPhone Duo, Apple has adopted a nano-texture cover that can be torn off and replaced like a protective film when the folds are worn. A similar solution is expected to be applied to the iPad Duo.

Mark Gurman described the device as "two iPad Minis side by side", implying that it uses a book-style opening and closing hinge design similar to the iPhone Duo.

Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that shipments will reach a maximum of 1 million units in 2028. This figure shows that Apple does not pursue high sales for this foldable tablet. The previous production of iPhone Duo was far from meeting the huge market demand.

In terms of price,

the price of such a large tablet with a fragile folding screen is expected to be significantly higher than the iPad Pro. For reference, the iPhone Duo starts at 2,299 euros in Germany, and the larger screen size will further drive up the cost.
