Abstract:
Atari officially announced the launch of a modern replica version of its 1983 classic 8-bit computer 800XL. It is currently available for pre-sale with an official price of $219 (approximately RMB 1,550). According to the official introduction, the new 800XL is not just a sentimental ornament, but a fully usable replica computer, jointly built by Atari, Retro Games Ltd. and Plaion.

In terms of hardware, the new machine is equipped with an original mechanical keyboard and comes with a joystick. It is worth mentioning that the machine retains a cassette slot that can be used normally. If the player still has the Atari game cartridge from that year, he can directly insert it into the device and connect to the TV to play.
In addition, 800XL also has 25 built-in games and comes pre-installed with the Atari BASIC programming language. This means that users can not only play games, but also write programs by hand like players did more than 40 years ago, reliving the creative experience of the early home computer era.
While retaining the retro design, this replica version also adds a number of modern improvements: the body provides 4 USB-A interfaces and supports HDMI output, which can be connected to a 60Hz TV. The official provides two display modes: 4:3 and pixel perfect.
And even the common simulator instant archiving, rewinding and other convenient functions are available.

In recent years, retro hardware reproduction has become an industry trend, with models such as Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum having previously launched similar products.
However, such products usually use simulator solutions to achieve hardware compatibility. Although they can run old software, the logic at the circuit level is very different from the original version.
At present, Atari has not announced the specific production information of this product, and whether it will establish an official agency channel in the Chinese mainland market.
