Abstract:
Nearly 50 years after its birth, the BMW 3 Series ushered in its eighth generation model in history. As one of the brand's best-selling and most representative products, the new 2027 BMW 3 Series has almost comprehensively revolutionized the appearance, interior, technical architecture and power system, introducing BMW's latest Neue Klasse design concept and digital technology into the traditional fuel sedan camp on a large scale for the first time.

The models released this time mainly include three fuel versions: 330, 330 xDrive and high-performance M350 xDrive. BMW has previously announced the pure electric i3 sedan based on the same design concept, and now the fuel version of the 3 Series has also been officially unveiled. BMW revealed that the i3 50 xDrive has a suggested retail price of US$61,500 and has started mass production at the Munich factory in August this year. The more powerful i3 M60 xDrive will also join the product lineup next year.
In terms of power, both the 330 and 330 xDrive are equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 255 horsepower and a peak torque of 400 Nm. It is matched with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and is available in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive versions. When equipped with sports tires, both models are electronically limited to 241 km/h. Official data shows that the two cars accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.9 seconds.

The performance flagship M350 xDrive takes over the position of the original M340i and is equipped with an upgraded 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 437 horsepower and a peak torque of 580 Nm. Compared with the M340i, the new car has an increase of more than 50 horsepower and has surpassed most previous M3 models except the current M3. BMW has achieved performance improvements through new turbochargers, redesigned intake ducts, optimized combustion chamber structure and adjusted camshaft timing, reducing the 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of the M350 xDrive to 3.9 seconds. However, its top speed is still limited to 241 km/h.
It is worth mentioning that although the M350 xDrive comes standard with a four-wheel drive system, BMW has introduced a drift mode called "Drift Moment" for it. This function can temporarily cut off the power output of the front axle, making the vehicle appear rear-wheel drive, making it easier for the driver to perform controlled drift operations.
In addition to the power upgrade, one of the biggest changes in the new 3 Series comes from the exterior design. The new car fully adopts the Neue Klasse design language. The front face is equipped with a slimmer double-kidney grille, and a headlight system with a yellow M logo lighting effect is optional. Compared with some BMW designs in recent years, the style of the new 3 Series has changed significantly. Although it may cause controversy, the overall shape still appears relatively restrained compared to other Neue Klasse models.

The front of the vehicle continues BMW's classic "shark nose" design element. The body adopts a short front and rear overhang layout and a smooth streamlined side profile. The hidden door handles further enhance the overall sense of simplicity. In terms of wheels, the new car comes standard with 19-inch wheels, and 20-inch wheels are optional.
The rear design is very similar to the pure electric version of the i3, using the unified taillight shape of the Neue Klasse family, making the brand's new generation models more recognizable.
The interior of the cabin has undergone the most thorough transformation in recent years. Physical buttons have been almost completely cancelled, leaving only the dual flash switch, shift control key and a few control buttons in the door area. A large number of vehicle functions are integrated into the central 17.9-inch large display screen, including air conditioning control, driving mode settings and even the position adjustment of the air conditioning outlet.
This large screen also has built-in video applications powered by TiVo, allowing passengers to watch TV shows or stream movies directly when the vehicle is stationary.

BMW also installed a panoramic iDrive display system that spans the entire cockpit along the lower edge of the front windshield. The system projects information onto a black display area extending from the left A-pillar to the right A-pillar, within the driver's natural line of sight. The left area mainly displays core information such as vehicle speed, battery life, engine speed, fuel level, and driving assistance status, while the remaining areas can display music playback information, weather forecasts, and even digital artworks from BMW's famous Art Car series according to personal preferences.
The steering wheel also adopts a futuristic new design. Traditional buttons are replaced by larger touch-sensitive operating areas and tactile feedback functions are added. The relevant control area will only light up when the corresponding function is available. The M Performance model is equipped with an exclusive sports steering wheel and adds shortcut control keys for M mode and Boost acceleration function.
In the field of driving assistance, BMW has also comprehensively upgraded the system. Adaptive cruise control, speed limit assist, lane keeping and steering assist have become standard equipment on the entire series. Similar to the new generation X5, lightly pressing the brake pedal when using adaptive cruise no longer completely shuts down the system, but directly adjusts the cruise speed to the lower speed required by the driver.

The upgraded lane keeping system has also become more intelligent. When the vehicle deviates from the lane without turning on the turn signal, the system will combine the driver's gaze tracking and steering wheel angle information to determine whether the action is an active driving intention, instead of immediately forcibly pulling the vehicle back to the original lane, thus reducing the sense of intervention.
For driving enthusiasts, the most interesting thing is still the "Drift Moment" function. However, this feature will not be opened simultaneously when the vehicle is launched. Instead, it is planned to be officially pushed to M350 xDrive owners through OTA remote software upgrade in 2027.
Although the new generation 3 Series has introduced a large number of digital and intelligent elements, BMW still emphasizes that driving pleasure is still its core value. The engine is still placed at the front of the car, the power is still transmitted to the wheels, the faster-responding steering mechanism and the driving mode that supports drifting all show that BMW hopes to continue to retain the personality of traditional driving machines in the digital age.

According to information released by BMW, the 2027 BMW 3 Series will be officially launched in early 2027. The 330 model starts at US$49,900, the 330 xDrive starts at US$51,900, and the flagship M350 xDrive starts at US$65,900. With the full implementation of the Neue Klasse technology system, the new generation 3 Series will also become one of BMW's most important core products in the next few years.
