"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4" topped the Steam US and global bestseller lists before its official release

📅 2026-10-22

Abstract:

With more than one day left before its official global release, "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4" has risen to the top of Steam's global best-selling list and the US best-selling list. TechPowerUp said that as of October 21, the game had risen 18 places on the global list and 25 places in the United States; this reflects the increased popularity of pre-orders, but the list did not disclose specific sales.

The game was open to early access for some pre-order players. The arrangement announced by Activision shows that all digital version pre-order users can play the campaign mode in advance from October 16th, and the DMZ mode will be available from October 20th. The Digital Standard Edition in the United States is priced at US$69.99, and the Vault Edition is priced at US$99.99. In addition to the base game, the latter also includes two multiplayer mode character packs, five weapon blueprints, a season of BlackCell battle pass, and DMZ additional equipment. The game is scheduled to be released globally on October 23.

As of the time of the report, "Modern Warfare 4" has 5,116 user reviews on Steam, with a favorable rate of 91%, and the overall evaluation is "particularly favorable." In comparison, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 7" had only 37% positive reviews on Steam at the time, and the overall rating was "mostly negative". "Modern Warfare 4" is called the final work of the current "Modern Warfare" story chapter by Activision's marketing director; the development team has also previously stated that it will return to a more realistic military shooting style, and responded to players' opinions, promising not to launch exaggerated linkage skins that destroy immersion.

Steam's best-selling list also saw other games rise in rankings during the same period: "Cyberpunk 2077" rose 19 places to sixth place, coinciding with the game's launch of the 2.5 update and a 30% discount; "Platform 2" rose 31 places to tenth place; "Shadow Blade Zero", which has not yet been released but has been pre-ordered, rose 22 places to rank ninth.
