Abstract:
Blizzard is adjusting the gameplay structure of "Diablo 5". The development team confirmed that the new game will abandon the seamless open world used in "Diablo 4" and refocus on procedurally generated areas and dungeon exploration.

According to the team, the procedural generation mechanism will not only change the map layout, but also affect the enemies, terrain appearance and atmosphere in the area. When the player enters the same location again, the enemy commanders and monster types controlling the local area may have changed, and the corresponding missions will also present a different exploration environment.
The story takes place about 100 years after the previous game, and seven years after the complete fall of Sanctuary. Unlike previous narratives in the series that prevented disaster from happening, in this game the King of Fear has won, and humanity will continue to survive in a destroyed world.

When players explore the world, they will use the "Sanctuary Caravan" as a mobile base. A caravan starts out as a camp consisting of a campfire and one companion, and gradually expands as more survivors are recruited. Different members have vehicles that reflect their personality and expertise, as well as crafting capabilities and merchants. The team emphasized that this system is not a traditional residential gameplay, but a core base for centralized processing of production and other activities.
In terms of professions, the team introduced the heavy armor profession "Plague Knight". The class may not be as mobile as a witcher, but it can spread disease and plague to control the battlefield, and gain strength and vitality by consuming these effects. Specific mechanisms related to resources are still under development.

Diablo 5 will also reintroduce Diablo 2-style runes and Runewords. The development team hopes to expand the effective equipment range while retaining the classic mechanism to avoid the system only leading to a few fixed solutions. More details will be announced closer to the release.
The equipment system will also restore item levels, multi-slot inventory, equipment attribute requirements and belts, and add sets that are oriented towards plot flow and take into account the diversity of equipment. Diablo 5 is currently scheduled to launch in the spring of 2029.
