Diablo 5 was officially announced at the 2026 BlizzCon recently. Afterwards, the official released the game’s first batch of concept paintings and three starting career information. This game will be launched in the spring of 2029 and is currently in the early development stage.
The story of "Diablo 5" is set a hundred years after "Diablo 4", breaking the traditional narrative of the series: Diavolo achieves the final victory, Sanctuary has completely fallen. It is no longer the player to prevent the doomsday, but the doomsday has already arrived. The released concept art shows a devastated world, with collapsed Gothic cathedrals and burned-out city ruins scattered across the land. The art style has been called back, abandoning the relatively warm tones of "Diablo 4" and returning to the dark, rough, and depressing visual atmosphere of "Diablo 2", focusing on the medieval apocalyptic wasteland feel.
This time, the first batch of three playable professions are officially announced. Demon Hunter (Demon Hunter): Uses double crossbow weapons, is good at shadow stealth, high-speed maneuvers, shuttles across the battlefield to hunt hell monsters, and continues the high-speed guerrilla positioning of this profession, Blizzard. Monk: With fist and kick martial arts as the core, he can crush demons at close range. At the same time, he can induce divine power to punish Blizzard in a wide range. Plague Knight: A heavily armored warrior, "the walking incarnation of death." It can spread disease and plague over a large area on the battlefield, and then swallow the plague energy to transform its own combat power. It has a unique toxin resource recycling system.
The official emphasized that the total number of professions in this game will exceed any previous game in the series. Classic characters such as barbarians and witches have not yet appeared. More professions will be announced in batches in the future. Details of skill trees, BD construction, and equipment systems have not yet been disclosed.
In terms of world view mechanism, this game cancels the traditional safe towns. As the successor of the Western Region, players will follow a growing caravan of survivors to travel through the broken sanctuary. Most side tasks come from caravan NPCs, and treasure goblins will also appear as special characters in the caravan. The game retains procedurally generated dungeons, and classic equipment mechanisms such as suits and belts return.
Blizzard also disclosed the current status of the Diablo IP: in the past thirty years, the cumulative number of players in the Diablo series has reached 130 million. "Diablo 4" will continue to operate, and the Amazon career pack will be launched in 2027 and will be available on Switch2. Netflix's animated adaptation is still in development and has no broadcast date yet.
