Abstract:
Mozilla has released the Firefox 155 browser, and the official announcement is expected to be made on Tuesday local time. This version has many new features, focusing on improving web connection speed and introducing an optional artificial intelligence desktop browsing window.
Firefox 155 supports Happy Eyeballs v3, which can try multiple connection methods at the same time and give priority to the first successful connection. On the basis of parallel comparison of IPv4 and IPv6, this mechanism can also use modern DNS records to identify the protocols supported by the server, and try HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 simultaneously to find a faster connection path.
The new version also supports HTTP/3 connections using QUIC v2. Firefox will automatically adopt QUIC v2 when the server selects QUIC v2 through compatible version negotiation.
Firefox 155 adds an optional Smart Window feature. It’s an artificial intelligence-powered desktop browsing window that, with user authorization, can access open tabs and browsing history. Currently, Smart Window is only available to users in the United States, Canada, and France.
In addition, the new version fixes an issue that may prevent Linux systems from going to sleep after long browsing.
For developers, Firefox 155 has added a number of updates, including support for WebAssembly Compact Import Section, support for WebAssembly Wide Arithmetic for 128-bit arithmetic instructions, adjustment of the standard property name of font-stretch to font-width, improved WebRTC interoperability, and support for the progress() CSS function.
