Abstract:
DLSS 5 mod has been launched on RTX 20 and RTX 30 graphics cards, but failures still occur frequently. Community developers working on unofficial support for DLSS 5 are now testing GeForce RTX 20 and RTX 30 series graphics cards. ShortFuse has released new versions of nvngx_dlssnr.dll for older RTX graphics cards, including a version described as "RTX20 accelerated."
Currently, some games can be run, while others cannot be started. A member of the RenoDX Discord reported that Red Dead Redemption works, while Red Dead Redemption 2 won't launch under the current configuration. There are also reports that Hogwarts Legacy is stuck in "STANDBY/FAILED" instead of activating the feature. Additionally, Give Him Love 5 successfully ran for about ten seconds in one test. The graphics card then stops outputting signals to the monitor. Other users have reported similar behavior when loading ReShade-based implementations, including crashes, loss of monitor signal, and increased graphics card fan speeds.
Since then, ShortFuse said that development work has shifted to optimization for RTX 20 and RTX 30 graphics cards. Analysis toolkits have also been distributed to testers, indicating that developers are moving to collecting performance data on older architectures rather than just verifying that DLSS 5 can launch.
Although NVIDIA has officially released DLSS 5, the situation has developed rapidly in the past week. Folk masters have already mastered the leaked version. In addition to applying it to various games, they have even made this latest technology available on 40-series graphics cards, and even today's 30-series and 20-series graphics cards. This is reminiscent of FSR 4 on RX 6000 and RX 7000 graphics cards. Performance is also an issue there, but some users still want higher graphics quality in supported games. Eventually AMD released the official version, and ironically, this process also started with a similar "leaking" of DLL files.
There is still controversy among players as to whether DLSS 5 can really bring higher image quality. The good news is that even though NVIDIA doesn't officially support these architectures, modders have proven that it's possible. And the most interesting thing? DLSS 5's AI rendering won't replace upsampling or frame generation, although modder RenoDX believes that eventually these techniques may converge to reduce the number of passes required for full-frame rendering.
