Abstract:
Google officially launched Google Pics on September 1, a generative artificial intelligence image creation and editing tool integrated into Google Workspace, aiming to compete with products such as Canva, Adobe Express and Microsoft Designer. The tool is free to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as most Google Workspace enterprise customers.
Google said that Pics can be used as a standalone service and will also be integrated into multiple applications of Google Workspace, including Google Slides, Docs and Drive. In this way, users can directly generate and edit pictures without leaving the Workspace application they are using.
Since image generation is the main starting point for using Pics, Google particularly emphasizes the tool's refined editing capabilities. Users can make adjustments to individual parts of an image without having to regenerate the entire image each time.
Among them, the object segmentation function can identify and separately extract different objects in the picture. Users can then move, scale, delete or transform these objects without affecting other areas of the image. Pics also supports entering text commands for specific areas of the picture and performing multiple targeted edits at once.
Pics also provides in-picture text editing functionality. Users can modify the existing text in the image or translate it into other languages while retaining the original design style and font style. In addition, the tool can generate multiple image versions based on the same prompt, allowing users to choose the most satisfactory result.
Similar to other Google Workspace applications, Pics supports real-time collaboration between multiple people. Multiple users can edit the same image at the same time, eliminating the need to repeatedly send different versions to complete collaboration.
Google also plans to embed Pics directly into existing Workspace applications. Users can generate or edit images in Google Docs and Google Slides without having to open the Pics app separately. Support for Google Drive will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
