I went to touch the actual Cybercab car, a real “plastic” Tesla

📅 2026-09-21

Abstract:

A few days ago, Tesla brought the Cybercab to China, and Brother Neck also went to touch the actual car. Of course, it is limited to static conditions. After all, this car does not even have a steering wheel and cannot be driven on domestic roads. I have long heard how the Cybercab will save money, but after seeing the actual car, I have to say that this car still feels more plastic than I imagined.

First of all, its outer shell is made of plastic.

Tesla uses a process called RIM reaction injection molding. Simply put, it mixes polyurethane pigments and plastics and directly injection molds them.

I think Lao Ma really has trouble with painting. The stainless steel used in Cybertruck did not need to be painted. Cybercab also saves this step this time.

This way the cost will definitely be greatly reduced, even if it is just a casual touch, the entire outer skin will have to be replaced.

All Cybercabs so far have only been seen in gold.

Why is this? Because New York taxis are yellow, this color is very close, but at the same time it has a more technological feel.

As a two-door, two-seater car, the Cybercab looks very small in real life.

Tesla has not announced the parameters. My feeling is that it is smaller than the current generation Porsche 911 in length and width. The car length is about 4.3-4.4m, and the car height will be slightly higher than the 911.

Looking from a distance, it looks quite compact. At first it feels like a Hot Wheels model. . .

The other plastic on the outside of the Cybercab is the large wheel hub cover. The texture of the actual car is also very plastic, and it can be moved with just a light hand.

Speaking of wheels, the tire ratio of this car is quite interesting.

The front wheel is 18 inches and the rear wheel is 21 inches.

I asked people at Tesla, and they didn’t elaborate on why this was done in terms of engineering. They felt that from a design perspective, larger rear wheels would make the proportions of the entire car fuller.

There is another detail here. The rear wheel track of this car is narrower than the front wheel.

This wheelbase does not refer to the tire width, but the distance between the two tires.

Most family cars will make the rear wheel track wider for rear stability. But this car does this in reverse in order to obtain lower wind resistance and allow the airflow to gradually shrink from front to back.

The pursuit of wind resistance is also reflected in the roof. You can see that because it has no rear row, the roof slides back and stretches very long. This gentle routing is also to make the wake smoother and reduce the negative pressure area.

So the entire shape of this car is more like a drop of water than an ordinary car.

The drag coefficient is also less than 0.2, which is considered the most radical among mass-produced cars.

Come, look at the back of the car.

Cybercab uses a diffuse reflection taillight similar to the refreshed version of Model Y. The cost of this light should not be high. . .

The way to open the tailgate is at the bottom. I think the button is a little low and not easy to reach. It would be better to have the entire sticker logo.

After opening, there is a 572-liter trunk. Officially, it is said that it can accommodate two folding wheelchairs, and some special circumstances have been taken into consideration.

I measured the size imprecisely, and it should be possible to store two 28-inch suitcases vertically. Anyway, this car can only seat two people, and the trunk space is more than enough for two people.

But what I didn’t expect was that

As you can see from the photos, the horizontal space here is actually very narrow.

We don’t know what parts are installed in the side panels on both sides, which eat up this space.

OK, let's get in the car and take a look.

Before entering, you can find that it uses an electric butterfly door, and the button is here in the small window.

The advantage of the butterfly door is that it does not affect your flow of movement. You do not need to pull the door handle and go around it to get in the car. Moreover, after the butterfly door is opened, the distance occupied by the two sides is narrower than that of a traditional door, making it less likely to be touched.

Of course, I think the most important thing when Lao Ma does this is to attract attention. And this electric door is also for driverless driving. Passengers cannot forget to close the door and the car can run on the street with the door open.

The outside is electric, and inside there is no door handle that can close the door. You have to turn off the phone or turn off the car.

There is a reason for this setting. In fact, when you take a taxi in the United States, when your phone is close to the door, it will automatically open and close, so you can save money.

When you sit in the car, you will find that the floor of the car is very low, making it easy to get in and out.

Originally, I thought the space inside the car would not be large, but when I got in, I found that the overall space was actually very generous.

Mainly because it has no steering wheel, no pedals, and no rearview mirrors, so you can adjust the front and rear seats however you want. I didn't even adjust the seat all the way, but there was still a certain amount of legroom in the front.

This seat has a really retro look.

The sense of wrapping found in family cars is completely absent here, and the seat cushions are almost flat.

It is quite comfortable, but if you drive it too hard, it may shake people around. Tesla does this because it must be confident enough in FSD’s driving skills.

The interior style of the entire car is Tesla's consistent design language, and all the places where plastic can be used are covered with plastic.

The instrument panel looks like an aluminum alloy trim panel, but it is actually a piece of plastic. The ceiling is made of fabric and the carpet material looks cheap and practical.

A few more details.

This car does not have a sunroof, so you no longer have to worry about being too exposed to the sun in the summer. I think this is really a positive upgrade.

Then this car also has no rear windshield and no interior rearview mirror, so the back of the seat is completely sealed.

This car screen is super large, with a full 22 inches, which is the largest screen in any Tesla car. This is for the entertainment of passengers. You can cast the screen, play mini games and so on.

Another thing that is friendly to the visually impaired is that the physical buttons in the car, such as double-flash warning lights and emergency door openings, all have Braille.

That’s the basic information about this car, and the rest is about the configuration.

This car uses a 163kW front-wheel drive single motor, and the battery is not large, only 47.6 degrees. But its energy consumption is well controlled.

The power consumption per 100 kilometers reaches 10.2kWh, so the entire vehicle has a driving range of more than 400km.

In addition, I searched for a long time on this car but didn’t see the charging port. Tesla’s idea is to use wireless charging instead, just like the wireless charging of mobile phones. The car drives itself to the wireless charging module, eliminating the step of inserting the gun.

The idea is very good, and don’t there always be people in the United States who cut off charging guns and steal copper wires to sell them for money? This can also be a defense.

But the problem is that the current wireless charging power is still not up to par. Cars running in the United States are still charged with guns when they are discovered.

It’s okay, there are too many Tesla cakes, let’s see how they round them out in the future.

Okay, so much for the Cybercab experience.

My biggest feeling about the whole car is that Tesla starts from first principles and makes an ultimate and pure transportation tool. It eliminates all the things that Cybercab can save, and only retains the core functions of getting you from point A to point B, making passengers comfortable and safe.

Of course, when such a new gadget comes out, there are still many problems that need to be solved, such as how to reduce vehicle breakdowns, how to improve operating efficiency, how to solve charging problems, etc.

These are just waiting for the Tesla team to gradually overcome. Maybe there will be an opportunity later, and Brother Neck will fly to America physically and give everyone a try.
