iPhone 18 Pro Smart Island is slimmed down: the screen-to-body ratio reaches a new high, Apple’s most beautiful face

📅 2026-09-06

Abstract:

A blogger posted a comparison photo of the smart island openings of iPhone 18 Pro and 17 Pro.

As can be clearly seen from the photos, the smart island of the iPhone 18 Pro has achieved significant slimming. According to reports, its size is about 13.49 mm, while the size of the smart island on the iPhone 17 Pro is 20.76 mm.

After lighting up the screen, the front view of the iPhone 18 Pro is even better, making it the iPhone with the highest screen-to-body ratio in history.

It is understood that Apple has moved the infrared flood-light sensing element originally integrated in the Smart Island to the bottom of the screen panel, but components such as the dot projector and infrared camera remain in the opening to ensure that the security and user experience of Face ID are not affected.

This design not only makes the front visual effect more refined, but also frees up more space for the top status bar, making the display of notification icons and real-time information more comfortable. It is worth noting that this upgrade is expected to be exclusive to the two high-end models of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

In terms of color matching, the Pro series has added cherry red, which has replaced the previous generation’s hot color Xingyu Orange and become this year’s main color of the year. This color scheme presents a dark burgundy tone, showing a deep matte texture in a dark light environment, making it highly recognizable.

In terms of hardware configuration, the iPhone 18 Pro is equipped with a 6.3-inch OLED screen, while the Pro Max is equipped with a 6.9-inch screen. Both models come standard with the A20 Pro chip and 12GB of memory.

It is worth mentioning that Apple broke the practice of launching all series at the same time in previous years. This fall’s conference will only launch the iPhone 18 Pro series and the first foldable screen iPhone Ultra, while the standard version will be postponed to the spring of 2027. This conference will be hosted by new CEO Ternus.
