Abstract:
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Company (NTT) plans to build its first dedicated data center in Japan for the American artificial intelligence company Anthropic. This move marks Anthropic’s further expansion of its infrastructure layout in the Asian market and also reflects Japan’s strategic direction of strengthening local computing capabilities in the era of artificial intelligence.

According to reports, the two parties will cooperate on artificial intelligence computing infrastructure. The new data center is expected to deploy large-scale computing equipment specifically used to run and train advanced artificial intelligence models to support the business expansion of Anthropic's Claude series models in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
In recent years, as the demand for generative artificial intelligence continues to rise, the computing resources required to train and run large language models have grown rapidly. Major AI companies have invested in building new data centers to meet the expanding computing needs. As one of OpenAI's important competitors, Anthropic is also accelerating the expansion of its global infrastructure network.
For NTT, this cooperation will not only expand the scale of its data center business, but will also help it occupy a more important position in the artificial intelligence infrastructure market. The Japanese government has been encouraging domestic companies to increase investment in AI and semiconductor fields in recent years, hoping to reduce dependence on overseas critical digital infrastructure and attract international technology companies to deploy more computing resources in Japan.
The report pointed out that with the popularization of AI applications, more and more countries have begun to pay attention to data sovereignty, computing resource security and localized deployment capabilities. For customers such as finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and government agencies, running AI services within their own borders is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, many technology companies, including Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Anthropic, are promoting regional data center construction plans.
After Anthropic received support from technology giants such as Amazon and Google, its business has developed rapidly in recent years, and the Claude model has become one of the world's major generative artificial intelligence platforms. This cooperation with NTT to build a local data center in Japan is regarded as an important measure to further strengthen its competitiveness in the Asian market.
Industry analysts believe that as the scale of artificial intelligence models continues to expand, data center construction will become an important part of global technology competition in the future. Japan's introduction of Anthropic's dedicated facilities will not only help expand the scale of domestic AI computing power, but may also drive the development of related servers, network equipment, power and semiconductor industry chains.
