Musk reportedly invested $1 billion in Skydance to provide financial support for the new media giant

📅 2026-10-23

Abstract:

Elon Musk has invested approximately $1 billion in new media company Skydance. News of the investment comes just weeks after Paramount completed its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The transaction led to the integration of the two major media groups and the formation of the new Skydance company.

The new company is co-led by co-CEOs David Ellison and Enon Kretz. Their main task is to integrate the two major streaming media platforms Paramount+ and HBO Max, and bring multiple television networks such as CBS, CNN, MTV, TBS, Comedy Central and Food Network into a unified enterprise system.

The report said Musk’s investment was completed during a period of simultaneous capital injections from other Skydance investors, including company board member Laurene Powell Jobs. Analysts believe that this funding will provide Skydance with much-needed financial support and help the company improve its stock price performance while advancing its cost reduction plan.

According to previously announced plans, Skydance has committed to cutting costs by US$6 billion over the next three years to improve operational efficiency and achieve post-integration synergies.

Musk has publicly praised the Ellison family in the past and maintains a close relationship with Oracle founder Larry Ellison. In 2018, Musk invited Larry Ellison to join Tesla's board of directors. In 2022, Larry Ellison also invested US$1 billion to assist Musk in completing the acquisition of Twitter. In addition, he also invested in Tesla in 2018.

As of the time of publication, Skydance had not immediately responded to media requests for comment on Musk’s investment.
