Abstract:

Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted on the social platform X on Thursday: "China's dependence on oil is declining rapidly." Musk was responding to a post earlier this week by Nicolas Fulghum, senior energy and climate data analyst at Ember, who said that in September, the share of sales of internal combustion engine vehicles (ICE) in China dropped to just one-third for the first time.

The market share of pure electric vehicles is close to half (47.3%), while plug-in hybrid vehicles contribute another 19.7%. In just five years, the market share of fuel vehicles has dropped from more than 90% to 33%.
