SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said that as the company expands its operations, its Starship rockets will eventually be able to put 1 million to 10 million tons of payloads into orbit per year. On Wednesday local time, Musk responded to a question from a user on the social platform
Solid fuel rockets use premixed solid propellants and generally have a simpler propulsion architecture than liquid fuel rockets.
Musk said: "Starship can transport 1 million to 10 million tons of payload to orbit every year." The billionaire also added that even if "the total number of orbital loads other than SpaceX triples, it will still be less than 0.1% of SpaceX's planned capacity," expressing optimism about SpaceX's payload capabilities.
However, Musk also admitted that there is a huge gap between the orbital carrying capacity and the cargo capacity of air transportation, which he said is "still just a piece of cake compared to the tonnage of air transportation."
It is worth noting that Musk said in March this year that the Falcon 9 rocket can put 1 million tons of payload into orbit. This was in response to a user's question about the payload capacity of the company's flagship rocket five years from now.
