Abstract:
According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple plans to launch Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 at a new product launch event on September 9. At present, the overall design of the new Apple Watch is not expected to change significantly, and the appearance will continue to be the design of the current Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3.
There have been rumors that Apple may add Touch ID to Apple Watch this year. However, Gurman once again said that he does not expect Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 to undergo major cosmetic changes.
Gulman revealed that Apple may re-launch a ceramic case version of Apple Watch Series 12. It is reported that Apple has tested two ceramic cases, white and dark gray, similar to the design used in the high-end Apple Watch Series 3 launched in 2017.
There is also a less credible rumor that the Apple Watch Series 12 may be equipped with a strap with built-in health sensors, but Gurman did not mention this feature.
In contrast, Apple is more likely to focus on improving some general functions this year, including improving operating performance and enhancing health and fitness tracking capabilities. Both Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 are equipped with the same S10 chip as the previous generation. Therefore, the new generation of S11 chip or newer version is expected to bring the first significant performance improvement to Apple Watch in several years.
Apple is currently testing a new feature that allows the Apple Watch to continuously collect heart rate data throughout the day. Gurman also said in his communication that Apple is redesigning the health and fitness application to display more data indicators related to health status, and the overall presentation may refer to increasingly popular health tracking applications such as Whoop and Oura.
Apple Watch SE 4 is not expected to be launched this year.
Gulman said that Apple is developing a "significant redesign" of the Apple Watch, but the product is not expected to be released for another one to two years. In the longer-term planning, Apple is still continuing to develop the blood glucose detection function, aiming to launch it around 2030.
