The new version of the "Resident Evil" movie directed by "Weapon" director Zach Craig will be released on September 17, and analysts predict that it will break the box office record of the series of movies. According to "Box Office Pro", the official publication of the National Association of Theater Owners, the new version of "Resident Evil" is expected to gross US$40 million to US$50 million in its first weekend in North America, which is almost double the US$26.6 million of the 2010 movie "Resident Evil: God of War" in its first weekend.
The new Resident Evil movie is only about 95 minutes long, which means theaters can show multiple shows a day to maximize box office.
If "Resident Evil" can reach $40 million or more in its opening weekend, it will be on par with the opening weekend of his most recent film, "Weapons." The film, released in 2025, grossed US$43.5 million in its opening weekend and ultimately grossed US$270 million worldwide. If the predictions are accurate, the box office performance of Craig's "Resident Evil" will far exceed that of 2021's "Resident Evil: Raccoon City," which failed miserably at the box office, earning only $42 million.
