OpenAI launches artificial intelligence tools specifically designed for financial professionals

📅 2026-09-11

Abstract:

OpenAI launches ChatGPT for Financial Services, a new tool for investment bankers and equity researchers. The product will combine built-in data from sources such as Daloopa, PitchBook and LSEG News with the latest GPT-6 Astra model, the company wrote in a blog post on Thursday. As the company rolls out newer AI models, the service will use those new models as well.

OpenAI hopes to use this tool to attract large financial institutions and continue to expand its share of corporate customers. Ordinary consumers have long made up the majority of OpenAI's customer base, but they have not been able to bring as much benefit as enterprise customers.

OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar said at a Goldman Sachs conference in San Francisco this week that earlier this year, the company's enterprise business and consumer business were close to a 50-50 split.

The data set used by ChatGPT for Financial Services will include earnings call transcripts, financial statements and company fundamentals.

The tool will also provide granular citation information, allowing teams to trace numbers and assertions back to their sources and verify them.

Nick Turley, OpenAI's vice president of product, said: "Actually, we are teaching ChatGPT to do research like an analyst and to provide basis for its conclusions like an analyst."

Both OpenAI and Anthropic have submitted listing documents confidentially. Anthropic is expected to be listed as early as this fall, which may be earlier than OpenAI.
