Abstract:
Before the huge success of the HBO series "The Last of Us", a live-action film adaptation plan was launched, but eventually fell into development hell and was shelved. Recently Neil Druckmann also confirmed that he and Naughty Dog Studios will no longer participate in the creative production of the third season of HBO's "The Last of Us".

Sony Pictures officially announced the "The Last of Us" movie project as early as 2014, with Sam Raimi as the producer and game creative director Neil Druckman personally writing the script, with plans to directly adapt the main story of the first-generation game. But the project quickly stalled, with the director and actors all pending.
Neil later recalled that the Hollywood producers wanted to make the film like "World War Z", with action scenes of large-scale disasters and explosions. But in his opinion, the core of "The Last of Us" is not
zombies
A big melee, but the delicate emotions and relationships between people, is completely contrary to the creative direction of this kind of popcorn blockbuster. The conflict of ideas between the two parties became the core reason for the abortion of the project.Neal admitted that looking back now, it was a blessing that the movie version did not come out. The original game itself already has a highly cinematic narrative, and it is difficult for a two-hour movie to completely compress the more than ten hours of character portrayal in the game. The HBO series gave enough creative freedom and allowed Naughty Dog to deeply intervene in the creation, so that it could restore the tone of the original story.

Neal recently made it clear in an interview with the Washington Post: "I did not participate in the creative direction of this season. Naughty Dog does not assume any creative role in the third season. I cannot comment on the production progress of the third season." Neil was deeply involved in the first two seasons, serving as writer, executive producer, and personally directed two episodes. The third season will be the final season of the HBO series, used to wrap up the stories of the first two games. Now all creative work is under the independent control of creator Craig Mazin.
Although bidding farewell to the series, Naughty Dog is still the guardian of the IP of "The Last of Us". Neil revealed that the studio has multiple projects related to this IP under development, but will not disclose the details to the public for the time being, waiting for the right time to announce them to players. His personal focus has completely shifted to the development of Naughty Dog's new science fiction IP "Star: Prophets of Heresy", and he has also fed back the film and television lighting and performance-related experience accumulated in series production into the game development process.
