Abstract:
CNN reported on Monday that the White House television media pool, which is responsible for rotating coverage of President Trump's activities, will stop covering the president's activities. The reason is that the White House banned CNN from continuing to serve as a member of the five-person media pool. On Monday, as Trump traveled to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, CNN was barred from covering him as a designated television media pool reporter.
Just as the remaining four members of the television media pool decided not to follow Trump’s activities, CNN, MSNOW and Politico stated that they would sue Trump to request the lifting of the White House access ban against these three media.
In addition to CNN, members of the White House television media pool include NBC News, ABC News, CBS News and Fox News. Members of the television and other media pools took turns accompanying Trump to interview Trump and report on White House events, and agreed to share event videos, photos, audio and quotes with other media colleagues.
The media obtained a notice sent to media pool members by Brian Boughton, Fox News Washington Bureau Chief and Acting Chairman of the Television Media Pool Alliance. Boughton wrote: "Effective immediately, the television media pool will no longer assume the reporting tasks of the media pool designated by the president."
He wrote: "This decision was made because the White House prevented CNN from fulfilling its assigned media pool responsibilities. There will be no substitute media pool set up this time. All other media pool reporting work continues as usual."
Boughton said: "We will continue to update as the situation develops."
NBC News Communications issued a joint statement from media pool members on the X platform: "It is vital that the public has access to accurate, independent information about the government."
The statement said: "No government should impose restrictions on news organizations because it does not recognize the content of media reports."
