On September 21, according to Bloomberg, Google announced the price and hardware specifications of the first batch of so-called "Googlebook" notebooks, thereby entering the high-end notebook market. In this market, built-in AI functions have become standard.

These high-end laptop models, starting at $899, are aimed at Android users and programmers, while aiming to make their Gemini AI an integral part of the laptop experience. Google doesn't make these systems itself, but works with five manufacturers - Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo Group - to produce the laptops, which run an Android-like operating system.
Although these laptops vary in price, design, and specs like processors and storage, they share some common features: similar keyboard layouts, and a "glowbar" that can display battery power and customize animations.

Sameer Samat, Google's president in charge of the Android ecosystem, said at a media event in New York last week that for Google, which mainly relies on advertising and services to make money, the purpose of promoting the laptop business is to launch devices that can work seamlessly with Android phones and add "truly useful" AI features.
Googlebook was first announced earlier this year, equipped with a 13- to 15-inch touch screen and a battery life of up to 14 hours. At the initial launch, these devices will be equipped with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors or Qualcomm Snapdragon X chips, and MediaTek chip versions will also be available in the future. These laptops are designed to be thin, light and portable, with some models weighing as little as 2.2 pounds.
The notebooks will be available for pre-order on Monday, with shipments starting in the U.S. on October 4 and in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia the next day.
This isn't Google's first foray into high-end laptops. In 2017, it launched the $999 Pixelbook, sold under the Google brand, but discontinued the product line in 2022. With the release of Googlebook, Google is once again trying to enter the high-end notebook market.
