Google launches Fitbit Edge sports bracelet: added OLED screen, built-in GPS, battery life up to 7 days

📅 2026-10-13

Abstract:

Google officially released Fitbit Edge, positioning it between the screen-less Fitbit Air and the more complete Pixel Watch 5, targeting users who want to get exercise guidance and health data but do not need a complete smartwatch experience. The new product is open for pre-order, priced at US$179.99 in the United States, and is expected to be retailed on October 27; the special edition in collaboration with NBA star Stephen Curry is priced at US$219.99. The standard version is available in four colors: obsidian, matte silver, olive green and canyon gold.

Fitbit Edge uses a 1.34-inch always-on color AMOLED screen. The body size is 39.22×25.56 mm, the thickness is about 11.58 mm, and it weighs 17.7 grams without the strap. The screen can display health data, exercise indicators, map navigation, weather, notifications and music control, and retains physical buttons on the side to quickly pause training during exercise. The body is made of recycled aluminum shell, and the strap is made of soft-coated silicone material; the standard package comes with two large and small straps and a USB-C magnetic fast charging cable. Curry’s special edition watch strap is made from recycled polyester yarn with a water-repellent coating.

Hardware includes an Ambiq AP5 microcontroller, 64MB NOR flash memory, and a 65mAh lithium-ion battery. Sensors include altimeter, accelerometer, gyroscope, blood oxygen infrared and red light sensor, electrocardiogram electrode, optical heart rate sensor, ambient light sensor and skin temperature sensor; positioning supports GPS and Galileo satellite system, and the connection method is Bluetooth 5.4. Google said that under certain test conditions, the tracking accuracy of the new built-in GPS is up to 40% higher than the previous generation; the sleep stage recognition accuracy is improved by 15%.

Fitbit Edge supports more than 50 sports modes and can automatically identify up to 100 types of activities, including running, cycling and walking; you can view real-time data and prompts on your wrist during training, such as adjusting pace, increasing intensity or taking a break. The altimeter records climb data. The official battery life is up to 7 days. When the battery is low, charging for 5 minutes can provide up to one day of use. It takes about 90 minutes to fully charge. Battery life data comes from Google's testing of pre-production devices. Actual performance will vary depending on the use of GPS, always-on screen and other functions. The device reaches 5 ATM and IP68 waterproof and dustproof levels, but Google reminds it that it is not permanently waterproof. It is officially recommended for use in shallow water environments and is not suitable for high-speed water flow or extreme water temperature scenarios.

Health features include all-day heart rate monitoring, sleep and recovery data, blood oxygen, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature changes, female menstrual cycle tracking, and ECG and atrial fibrillation related monitoring. Google has also brought Health Guardian to Fitbit Edge, which can track blood pressure trends and insulin resistance trends, and provide high and low heart rate reminders; trend reports are generated on a monthly basis and must meet wearing conditions, and the availability of related functions varies by country and region. Google emphasizes that these trends are for general health reference only, do not provide clinical real-time blood pressure or blood sugar readings, and cannot be used to diagnose, treat, or adjust medications.

Google Health Coach is powered by Gemini, which can generate and adjust training plans based on the user's exercise, sleep and other health data, and can also provide real-time guidance during exercise; using the coach and some advanced health features requires a separate subscription to Google Health Premium. Get three months of Premium when you buy a Fitbit Edge. The bracelet needs to be used with the Google Health app and Google account, and is compatible with most mobile phones running Android 11 and above, iOS 16.4 and above.
