Abstract:
Windows 11 has fixed the forced update behavior that has long been criticized by users. The shutdown and restart buttons no longer install downloaded updates, but directly perform shutdown or restart operations.
Previously, when the Windows update download was completed, no matter whether the user clicked to shut down or restart, the system would install the update first and then perform the operation, causing shutdown to become a long wait.
Many users have been "trained" into conditioned reflexes by this behavior. Every time they click shutdown, they will go through the update installation and restart process by default.
Microsoft said in April this year that the power menu will clearly distinguish between power operations and update operations, providing four options: shutdown, restart, update and shut down, update and restart.
Selecting shutdown or restart will directly perform the corresponding operation and no longer trigger update installation. If the user wants to install updates, he must actively select updates and shut down or update and restart.
This change first appeared in the Windows 11 Build 26300.8289 Insider beta in April, and will now be officially pushed to users. Microsoft said this move is aimed at making the power menu more predictable.
