"Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remastered" development details will not add fast teleportation

Abstract:

Nintendo has released the first two chapters of an interview with the developers of the Switch 2 remake of "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time." The production team set "changing the picture, but not the experience" as the core principle, and because fast travel would weaken the exploration process, the new teleportation point was eventually deleted.

Eiji Aonuma had suggested adding fast travel points, but testing found that teleportation would reduce the chance of players discovering secrets and details while moving around Hyrule. The production team therefore withdrew this change. The world is still composed of multiple independent maps and will not be changed to a seamless open world; the relationship between the far and near views of Hyrule Plains has been adjusted, and locations such as castles and mills have been moderately expanded.

The visual team referenced puppetry and traditional film special effects, hoping to achieve a balance of believability, mystery and fantasy. The team also researched real materials and created fabrics to recreate Link's costume as a child. The new version is led by HokWai Ng, with Aya Shida, Hiroki Taguchi and Masato Ohashi responsible for art, programming and music respectively.

This remake is also related to the 40th anniversary of "The Legend of Zelda". Eiji Aonuma hopes that new members of the team will understand the structure and development significance of the original work. He recalled that the original version was Nintendo's early large-scale 3D project, and the Z key locking mechanism was designed to solve combat operations in a three-dimensional environment. Fujibayashi Hidemaru regards this work as a turning point in the series because it proves that exploration and discovery can smoothly enter the three-dimensional space. The developers believe that the balance of the original version is very delicate, and too many changes will destroy the experience that players remember.
